CREATING A NEW USER ACCOUNT:

STEP 1:

Right-click on the taskbar then click on the Task Manager from the menu.

In the Task Manager window, click on the File button on the top left corner. Then click Run New Task from the list.

STEP 3:

Type “powershell” in the box that appears. Check the box below it and click on “OK.”

STEP 4:

In the Powershell window that appears, type” net user DifferentUsername DifferentPassword /add” replacing the different username with new username and different password with the password you want to keep and press Enter.

STEP 5:

Restart the computer and log in with the new user and password.

The Start Menu will work after this. However, if it still does not work then try following the other methods mentioned below.

Disabling Or Uninstalling Third-party Antivirus:

If you have third party antivirus software installed on your computer then they might be a reason behind the broken Start Menu on your Windows 10.

STEP 1:

First, you have to make sure that Windows Defender on your computer is working. If it is not working then try enabling it by opening the Settings window by pressing Windows + I key. After the window is opened, select Update and Security, then choose Windows Defender from the left side menu.  Now click on Windows Defender to open it.

STEP 2:

Select the “Virus and Threat Protection” tab from the right-hand menu and turn ON real-time protection.

Repairing Corrupted Windows File On Your Computer:

The corrupt Windows files present in your computer can also be an underlying cause triggering the Start Menu problem on your computer. You can follow the below steps to solve this problem:

STEP 1:

Start the Task Manager by right-clicking on the Taskbar and selecting Task Manager from the menu that appears.

STEP 2:

Run a new task in the Task Manager by clicking on the File tab and choosing Run New Task option.

STEP 3:

In the new window, type “powershell” and check the checkbox present below and click on “OK”

STEP 4:

In the next window, type “sfc /scannow” and press Enter key. If the scan finds anything corrupt your computer will take some time to fix it. However, if the scan does not find anything then move on to the next step.

STEP 5:

At the next prompt of Powershell, type the following command “ DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth” now press Enter key on your computer and wait for the scan to finish. After this, check if your Start Menu starts working again.

Run Windows Update:

Windows updates take place two times a year. If you computer shuts down between the Windows Update then this can also cause your Start Menu to stop working. Run the Windows Update now to solve this issue by following the below steps

STEP 1:

Open Windows Settings by pressing Windows key with I. Now choose “Update and Security” option.

STEP 2:

Now click on Windows Update from the left menu and click on check for updates to update your system.

Re-login To Your Computer:

This is one of the easiest way to solve all of your issues related to Windows 10. This will be the fix for you if your issue with Start Menu comes occasionally.  Follow the steps below to re-login to you account:

STEP 1:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys together and click on the “Sign out” button there to sign out from your account.

After your computer restarts, login back to your account by entering your password.

Uninstalling And Re-installing The Video And Sound Drivers:

If the problem with Start Menu starts right after you are done updating your computer then the possible cause of it might be your video and sound drivers which has become outdated. Reinstalling the video and sound drivers on your computer can solve this issue. To re-install the drivers on your computer follow the steps below:

STEP 1:

Press the Windows + X keys on your keyboard and choose Device Manager.

STEP 2:

On the next window, open the “Sound, video and game controllers”, now right-click on audio card driver, select properties, now click on the driver tab and note the details of your driver mentioned there.

Now close the properties windows and again right click on the audio driver tab and click on the uninstall tab to uninstall it.

Restart the computer now. Your computer will start installing the drivers itself. If it does not then try installing the drivers from the manufacturer’s official website. Apart from this you can also use the generic audio driver by Windows. You can do by simply opening up your Device Manager, then right click on your device and choose update driver to browse your desired driver. From the list of drivers, select “High Definition Audio Device” and install it by following the on-screen instructions.
