Ways to circumvent the rule
As with everything in life, there are ways around this rule. Some of them are quite simple, while others include a bit of luck getting past TSA checkpoints. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try them – the worst that can happen is to have your toothpaste confiscated, which isn’t really a big deal.
Put it in your checked baggage
The 3-1-1 rule only applies to hand luggage. So if you’re traveling with checked baggage and carry-on baggage, pack your oversized toothpaste in a checked bag. You can even pack a full suitcase full of toothpaste for all ASD care.
Just make sure you have a suitcase with at least one pocket for your toiletries, to avoid any mishaps. The worst way to start your journey is to wash the toothpaste out of every item you packed.
Be sneaky (not recommended, but possible)
It’s a great way to get around the TSA 3-1-1 rule, since you’re not actually carrying any liquids or gels. And you’ll have plenty of products to brush your teeth on your trip, so it’s a win-win.
There is another option -Bikit solid toothpaste tablets. One thing that makes it a better choice than Lush is that theall individually wrapped, they are therefore more hygienic if more people use them.
When you want to brush your teeth, just put one or two tablets in your mouth and start chewing them. After a while they will start to foam up and then you can brush your teeth like you would regular toothpaste.
The TSA requires that all of your toiletries come in a clear bag that you have to take out and show them. Now you can always keep a big tube of toothpaste in your pocket and not show them. But they’ll see it on the x-ray, right? Wrong.
Yessome toothpastes don’t show up on their x-rays- or so other travelers claim. In reality,a certain regular customerwrote about it in a newsletter, prompting many other readers to share their similar experiences.
If you want to try and get lucky with toothpaste sneaking past TSA resellers,of course it isa crest a. Its packaging is made of lightweight plastic, which the x-ray machine cannot see.
Obviously, if you want this to work, you can’t claim to have a full-size tube of toothpaste in your luggage. And there’s always the possibility of agents looking at your bags, seeing them and taking them from you, so it’s a good idea to bring a spare TSA-approved bag anyway.
Note: While sneaking into a plane is possible, I don’t recommend or condone it. The TSA has these rules for a reason, and I personally think we should try to stick to them as much as possible.
Take it in solid form
Yes,you can get toothpaste in solid form.Or rather dental tabs. And since there’s no limit on solid toiletries, you can pack as many as you want for your trip.
Lush is a British brandcreate organic and fresh cosmetic products. You may be familiar with their famous bath bombs, but they also make just about anything you could possibly need in solid form. This includes strong shampoos, soap, toothbrushes and mouthwash tablets, among others.
Maybe that’s a lot of information to keep in mind at once, or maybe you don’t mind reading the whole post. Anyway, here’s a quick summary of what to keep in mind when packing your toiletries:
The 3-1-1 rule means that the maximum container size for liquids and gels is 3.4 ounces (toothpaste is a gel)
The 3-1-1 rule only applies to carry-on baggage and you can pack large toiletries in your checked baggage.
You can find a wide variety of travel toothpastes online and at your local stores.
There are ways around the 3-1-1 rule, like buying solid toothpaste or getting a crest and not declaring it at TSA checkpoints — but the latter is a gamble.
And that’s all you need to know about toothpaste and air travel. Seriously, if you apply everything you learned in this article about packing toiletries in your luggage, getting through that TSA checkpoint should be a breeze. I wish you a good trip !
